Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What do you mean by "all-inclusive?"
A: This means we try our hardest to make floating convenient for you. We provide a
trip to and from the river, an innertube or kayak, and a snack pack. We also pick you up from a
prearranged location. Except for basic outdoor gear (see next question), all of the difficult
work has been done for you!
Q: What should I bring for a float trip?
A: You will need a towel and sunscreen. We also highly recommend a pair of water shoes, a change
of clothes, and a life jacket if you are a weak swimmer. Please do not bring any personal
items that could be lost or stolen.
Q: Are these rivers in Austin?
A: No, that's the best part! We provide transportation to rivers in San Marcos, New Braunfels,
and Comfort. These floats are better than anything you could find in Austin.
Q: What do I need to do on the day of my scheduled float?
A: Just get your supplies together. Make sure we have directions to your personal
pick-up point. We leave promptly at the departure time.
Q: How do I sign up for a float trip?
A: The easiest way is to call (512)96-FLOAT
(963-5628). If you leave a message, tell us the date and time you would like your
trip and we will return your call within one day. You may also
e-mail us.
Q: What happens if it rains or floods?
A: Rain checks will be issued on the day of the trip if we feel floating would
not be safe. They will be provided up until the time the trip begins on the
river. Because Texas weather changes rapidly (rain on Friday, sun on Saturday!),
rain checks are only issued on the day of the trip.
Q: Can I bring alcoholic beverages?
A: Yes, if you are 21 years or older. Consumption of alcohol by minors is not
allowed, and may result in fines from law enforcement along the river.
Q: Can I bring my own cooler or floatation devices?
A: Yes. We reserve the right to inspect your cooler or items for prohibited items,
in the interest of protecting the rivers we care about.
Q: Do you provide innertubes?
A: Yes, we provide an innertube for use during innertube float trips, including an
extra one for your cooler.
Q: What items are prohibited on float trips?
A: There are state and local laws governing Texas rivers, and all Austin Float Trips
customers are expected to fully comply. The main rule: Absolutely no glass
or styrofoam products on the river.
Q: Do I have to know how to swim?
A: Yes, definitely. Expect your tube to flip once or twice during a
float, and the rivers are quite deep in places. Weak swimmers may wish to
bring and wear a life jacket.
Q: Is this dangerous?
A: Mostly no. Texas rivers are fun and exciting, but do have natural hazards.
Expect a few bumps and bruises, although we will do our best to tell
you how to have the safest experience possible. Thousands of people of all ages
float these rivers each year, and there are rarely serious injuries. Chance of
injury does increase substantially, however, when drinking alcoholic beverages.
Q: Is there a deposit?
A: Yes, we generally ask for a deposit to confirm your reservation.
There is also a $100 minimum per booking.
Q: Do you accept same-day reservations?
A: Yes, we can usually schedule a trip with just a few hours of notice. Just
call us to make the arrangements.
Q: How much paperwork do I have to sign?
A: All participants must sign a common-sense, general liability release.
It's basically an acknowledgement that these are natural rivers, and you're responsible
for your own safety and behavior.
Q: What if I've placed a reservation, but need to change to a different day?
A: Call us to make changes to reservations.
Q: Can you take just me or my family on a private float trip?
A: Absolutely! Call us to make the arrangements.
